The Engineering Department is responsible for the design, development, testing of new products, and the improvement and updating of existing designs.

Value analyses are carried out and new materials and proprietary items are assessed, particularly friction materials, hydraulic seals and components.

The technical aspect of major projects is managed by the department and, in addition, support and assistance is given to the Customer Support Centre as required.

Reporting to the Technical Director are the Quality Department and the twelve staff employed in Engineering, most of these possess formal engineering qualifications.

All engineering systems are computerised and are approved to ISO 9001. Facilities available include:

Computer aided draughting (2D CAD).
3D CAD/solid modelling.
FEA (finite element analysis).
Disc spring analysis.

Additionally, computer programs have been developed by Twiflex for disc brake application calculations (including disc temperature and pad life estimation) and for coupling and centrifugal clutch applications (selection, torsional vibration analysis and whirling speed).

Some of these are made available to the Customer Support Centre and to agents throughout the world.
