VKSD-FL Disc Brake Caliper
The wind turbine market has been slowly recovering since the 2008 global financial crisis. While there was significant improvement in 2012 and 2013, global wind power grew by a record 50+ GW in 2014. There are currently six countries that have an installed wind capacity of more than 10,000 MW, with China, the U.S. and Germany leading the world. The U.S. alone produces enough wind energy to power more than 16 million homes.
A major European manufacturer of small wind turbines contacted Twiflex for a rotor and yaw braking solution for their new 60 kW horizontal axis turbine. The brakes are primarily used for parking duty, but also provide emergency stop functionality.
Twiflex Ltd., along with their partner Intertech b.v., recently supplied brakes to a major offshore winch manufacturer based in the Netherlands for use on ship-to-ship mooring winches. The brakes are used on the winches to limit tension in the towing cable and are required to slip briefly if the peak loading condition is exceeded.
